Letter to IT Department

Dear IT Faculty members,

Hello, my name is Christopher M. Ripley. I am a member of the Medaille College Student Government Association. For the last couple of months, members of SGA have got together and talked about issues on campus. We are trying to help the students get what they need to succeed in the world today. Medaille College is step one of the last stepping stones for students before they enter the real world and a full time job.

You may be wondering why I am writing you this letter, as the co-chair of SGA’s newly founded IT committee, I wanted to express some of our concerns before you come to our SGA general meeting. We would like to be the voice of the students to you. Along with that, create a partnership with you to help keep the students needs met. We would like to really make Medaille College a better place and a better learning community.

We have come up with ideas and are looking forward to discussing them with you. We are looking forward to having you at our meeting. We will have some questions and would like to get your feelings towards certain issue on campus pertaining to IT. SGA has had many inquiries from students and faculty all over the campus. They also are interested in what is going on with IT and what they are planning with the college. We feel it is our duty to represent these constituents.

We have some concerns with things and would like to see if it is possible to have these things on the Medaille campus. As a college, we are supposed to get students into the working world, ready to go at the highest level. SGA is wondering if it is possible to have Windows 7 running on all computers on campus. We feel that this could really benefit the students and get them ready for the working world. Another question we are wondering is if it is possible to have wireless internet in the dorms. We, as students feel that this is beneficial because of all the smartphones, Itouches, and other wireless capable products students have today. Another question that is always asked to us is the usage of BbVista and MedailleONE. I understand this is not our software but is it possible to use something else so it is not down so much and is more user friendly. Also, as a Mac computer user, I know we have a Mac Lab but is it possible to have more Mac Computers placed around campus so students can have easier access to them. I know some of these are big things but if one of these is accomplished, the students will benefit greatly from it and be able to succeed better in life.

In closing I thank you for taking the time to read this, and I look forward to hearing from you in the future about this topic.

Sincerely,
Christopher M. Ripley

Our day in Albany!

On tuesday Feb 9th we went to listen to speakers about the tap, c-step, heop etc. programs, and listened to students stories on how they wouldn't be in college if it wasn't for one of those programs to help them pay for college. After we left there we walked around, ate lunch, and then met with some of the senator's/assemlby's staff memebers. We had questions on why they want to take away tap, and we told them how 85% percent of our students go through tap to pay for college. We met alot of people who were against the cut of tap and such. We got some information on who to email (the ones who were for cutting tap). The people we met with told us, they are doing everything they can to keep to financial aid programs for college students. They were saying it is just a hard time right now because of the economy, and that will be back up again soon. Being in Albany really informed us on alot about the programs, and we are glad to be part of Student Governemt who went and experienced this, and we hope to go again!

Legislative Action

Dear Erich,

It saddens me to announce to you that you have officially been removed
from office. As per the Medaille College Student Government Association
Constitution Article XI Section 6:

Attendance at regular academic session meetings is mandatory. No more
than one (1) unexcused absence is permitted per semester. Anymore than
one (1) absence will result in automatic review from the Student
Government.

You have missed three (3) consecutive Student Government Association
meetings without any excuse. You have now officially been removed from
office. Your seat will not be replaced until the Spring 2010 elections.

If you choose to appeal this expulsion from office, you must make a
formal appeal no later than 12:30 Monday February 15th, 2010. If you
want to make that appeal, you will need to notify Nick Calandra
(President of SGA) Ryne McCord (VP of Legislation) and LaKeisha Flood
(Associate Director of Student Involvement).

I wish you luck in your future endeavors.

Lobbying-Albany,NY

Today Eric Richardson, Ryne McCord, Nick Calandra, Anthony Passerino, Chris Ripley, myself Kelly Pozantides, along with our wonderful advisor Lakeisha Flood, left Medaille College around 5pm to take our 5 hour journey to the great state capital of New York, Albany!! I sat in the front seat as Ryne and Nick were on their computers. Ryne was watching a movie, and Nick was working on his 40 page power point. Chris and Tony were in the back listening to music, and trying to watch the movie old school that Ryne was watching. I just sat in front texting on my phone and talking to Keisha. We first stopped at around seven to take a stretch. As we kept driving it started to know more into the farther Rochester Area, but Keisha still kept us safe on the road. The Hilbert student were hungry so we stopped and at at Starbucks and some at Burger King. Then we started off on our way to Albany only about 35 miles to go. About an hour and a half later we arrive at the Holiday Inn Express in Downtown Albany. We get into the parking lot as we travel the parking lot for 10 min trying to find a parking spot. We finally just park in front and Keisha runs in to get us our room keys. We get into our rooms and settle in for an early morning.
